Twitter Now Allows Tweets To Be 280 Characters: Who Will Be Happier Than Donald Trump?

By Kachi Ojieh Wednesday, September 27, 2017

A lot of people have ended up being frustrated due to twitter’s 140-character limit on tweets which has been in place like forever (*can you believe that this limit was set 11 years ago). People's frustration was born out of the fact that they wanted to say more than they were allowed and not many of them found it funny.

Good news! Twitter is currently testing 280-character tweets, doubling it from the 140-character limit, all in the name of helping its users to express themselves more. Is 280-character even enough to say your mind? For now, let’s accept what they are offering to us.

In a blog posted published by the company, they said “Our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people tweeting in English.” They continued by also saying “When people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting — which is awesome!”

It has been noted that tweeting in Japanese, Chinese and Korean was less frustrating than in English. Aliza Rosen, Product manager at Twitter and Ikuhiro Ihara who is a Senior Software Engineer at twitter spoke about their research that makes the above true.

@realdonaldtrump will soon be dishing out 280-character tweets to provoke more people. Anyways, Twitter is still testing this, so let’s wait for them to be through and roll it out to the public.
