Robot Priests: Will They Be Able To Cast Out Demons?

Hey! Friend, hope your day is going fine? Anyways, it is no news that artificial intelligence is breaking new grounds daily but we shouldn’t forget that it has limitations. Best case scenario, AI can help in boosting human abilities, yet it won't supplant us. They lack emotions, moral values and rely on some weird programming to differentiate between right or wrong.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella once said that “The beauty of machines and humans working in tandem gets lost in the discussion about whether AI is a good thing or a bad thing”.

Back to the story! Should robots be permitted to be everything humans are? Even to the extent of becoming a priest? Religious fanatics won’t like this.

Wittenberg , a small German town unveiled a robot priest to mark the commemoration of when Reformation started. The robot had the ability to deliver blessings in five languages such as German, English, Spanish, French and Polish. It allowed worshipers to choose whether they preferred a male or female voice.

The Reformation which was introduced by Martin Luther was a widespread theological revolt in Europe against the abuses and totalitarian control of the Roman Catholic Church.

Germany’s Robot Priest, BlessU-2, is believed to be initiated to cause a debate about the fate of the church and the capability of artificial intelligence.

Stephan Krebs of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau, which is behind the initiative, spoke to the theguardian saying;

“We wanted people to consider if it is possible to be blessed by a machine, or if a human being is needed,”

“The idea is to provoke debate, people from the street are curious, amused and interested. They are really taken with it and are very positive. But inside the church, some people think we want to replace human pastors with machines. Those that are church-oriented are more critical.”

After all have been said, we at Techisbae had two questions:

(1). Will Robot Priests be able to cast out demons? Although we know it is still in its early stage of development.
(2). What will the Robot Priest do when it encounters an unfamiliar situation beyond its programming? It might end up breaking down or acting strange.

What do you ladies and gentlemen think as we draw our curtains here?
